The Studios · Four names

Architecture, rooms and gardens beneath one banyan.

OMA shaped the tower, Yabu Pushelberg the interiors and Enea Landscape Architecture the gardens, with Banyan Group.

The banyan · Phuket, 1994

A sanctuary that began with seven thousand trees.

A spent tin mine on Bang Tao Bay, replanted, became the first Banyan Tree.

In 1984 Ho Kwon Ping and Claire Chiang took on land that no one wanted — a spent tin mine on Bang Tao Bay, in Phuket — and replanted it with more than seven thousand trees.

Banyan Tree Phuket opened there in 1994, with the pool villa and the first luxury spa in Asia. The banyan gave the brand its name and its sign: shade, shelter, a place to gather.

Thirty years on, Banyan Group brings the brand’s first residential address in the United States to Hibiscus Street — not to a bay, but to the heart of a city.

2 Volumes, interlocking

Two volumes, drawn as one gesture.

A dual-form tower on a garden podium, sculpted so that every home turns a corner.

OMA — the Office for Metropolitan Architecture, founded by Rem Koolhaas in 1975 — shaped the tower as two volumes that lean into each other above the podium.

From the street it reads as a stack of chevron terraces; from inside, as corners: glass on two sides and light that moves through the rooms during the day.

The interiors

Yabu Pushelberg, founded in 1980 by George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg and working from Toronto and New York, holds the rooms to tactile restraint: natural stone, brushed metals, fluted glass and light built into the architecture.

One first

The announcement of the project called it the first collaboration of its kind between these four internationally acclaimed names — OMA, Yabu Pushelberg, Enea and Banyan Group (PR Newswire, March 2026).

Enea Landscape Architecture — the practice Enzo Enea founded in Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland, in 1993, with an office in Miami — plants the podium so that the garden rises with the building, from the corner of South Dixie Highway to the terraces above the street.
